Whoa Nellie. I don't think that this blog has ever had so much controversy! While my beliefs will not be changed and my disdain for Oprah will live on, I have certainly been touched by the responses to the post. In fact, in reflecting on the comments made, I realized something. While I question Oprah's intent for her good deeds, I could be doing so much more than I do for this world.
We live comfortably, eat plenty, dress nice and afford things that many cannot. We aren't rich like Oprah, but we have enough to give more than we currently do. Those poor girls in Africa, do have Oprah to thank for their education. Do any of them have me to thank? Nope. Does anyone besides my own children have me to thank? Not really. So I decided to put my (our) money where my mouth is. I visited http://www.compassion.com/ and Daniel and I sponsored a child.
I'm not telling you this for glory or to extinguish the fiery opinions that some of you may have of me, after my Oprah post. I'm sharing this in order to thank you all. You have shown me, every one of you, that it is our duty, regardless of beliefs, to do more for our world. Whether Buddhist, Atheist, or whatever we are, it is the content of our hearts that need to be examined. I examined mine tonight and realized that it was a little Grinch like (two sizes too small!) I encourage you all to do the same tonight.
P.S. My opinion of The Wiggles still stands. Here is a picture of our new little family member, Supansa:

Kadi,
Good for you!! We sponsor 2 children in Honduras (Cristian and Asbell). They regularly send letters, pictures and drawings. Compassion an amazing organization!
Where does Supansa live? They actually have organized trips you can take to meet your sponsored children and their families.. Matt was not interested in going to Honduras but I certainly am! :o)
Love,
M in CO
Bless you for "adopting" that little boy. We, too, believe in charity (e.g.,helping at the National Children's Hospital and the Humane Society).
The crux of my beliefs: Do unto others....
Good for you for sponsoring a child. I think that is awesome! I'm with you on the wiggles!
I've never understood the Wiggles. But then again, all baby shows are kind of strange. Teletubbies looks like a creepy acid trip to me. Baby head floating inside of a sun? Check. Stuffed animals cavorting in strange ways? Got em, too. How about a self-propelled vacuum with eyes? You betcha. What's that?? You want some random live rabbits nibbling on the fake grass? Coming right up! I think I'm going to go write about this as this is actually your blog and not mine.
Anyhoo, congrats on your eighth seed. She's a lucky girl who I'm sure will benefit greatly from your efforts.
