I'd Be Such A Great Dad!

I am supposed to be hiking in the mountains, with 60 second graders tomorrow. Due to the lack of a baby sitter, I won't be able to go. Daniel Jr. is so angry with me for not going, that I might as well have told him that Christmas is canceled this year. He fell asleep crying tonight. I feel so bad, but it is out of my hands. I hate disappointing my kids.

This is the first year that I've been able to attend any field trips. In the past, I've been too pregnant to endure the laborious nature of field tripping. Daniel Sr. was always the parent who went with the kids. He even got his picture in the year book at our old school. Never mind that I was the one who donated all of my spare time to help in the classrooms, organized class parties and was a team mom. Did I get a picture? Nope. Not even the back of my head, made it into the pages of the year book. Daniel got a full length color photo. All of the moms ranted and raved over his dedication to his kids.

It just goes to show:
A woman can dedicate her whole life to her children, their school activities and playing chauffeur for every sporting event known to man. She can squeeze a baby out of a hole the size of an orange. She can sit up nursing them for countless hours, raise them, nurture them and wipe their butts. She can sacrifice her whole life for her children. Yet, all the dad has to do is show up for a lousy field trip, and he becomes the poster boy for good parenting. Maybe I should slap on a fake mustache, dress in drag and show up at the hike tomorrow, with all of the little ones in tow. It would probably get me nominated for father of the year!

I just did a field trip yesterday...I'm still recovering, 3 glasses of wine and a beer later!

OMG my kid remembers EVERYTHING I have missed, and believe me, it isn't much, but he fails to forget all that I DO show up for; homeroom mom for four years in a row now, assistant team mom, team mom coordinator, PFA board member...and all the other crap in between!!!
